"Corsi e Percorsi"
INTRODUCTION
These are rather special workshops that offer a cultural journey to learn about, experiment with, and explore some of the traditional historical fabrics of Italian textile production, particularly those from Tuscany.
The various courses include a number of hours in the workshop with theoretical and practical lessons on hand looms using natural fiber yarns similar to those used historically.
At the same time, they offer the opportunity to visit places and museums to learn more about ancient examples of the fabric being studied.
IN SHORT
Traditional historical fabrics tell us about the Italian textile tradition. What fascinates me is the opportunity to study and make them on heddle looms, unlike precious fabrics such as brocades or silk damasks.
“Corsi e Percorsi” is a workshop aimed at both people who have never taken a manual weaving course and experienced weavers interested in learning about traditional historical fabrics and experimenting with new interpretations and applications.
The advantage of the workshop is that it offers the right approach for different requirements.
As a teacher, it will be my job to tailor the teaching to the student, whether they are beginners or experts.
THE DIAMANTINA
It is a small lozenge that stands out among the countless small lozenges that can be admired in paintings and frescoes, especially those from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Why? Because its structure is ingeniously composed.
THE FILATICCIO LUCCHESE
The prince of recycled fabrics, Filaticcio originated in Lucca when, in the Middle Ages, the city was one of the most prestigious centers for silk production and fine weaving using this miraculous filament. Filaticcio is made from yarn obtained from silk processing waste. From a poor fabric, it has become an icon of traditional Tuscan silk fabrics, particularly those from Lucca.
THE TRADITIONAL FABRICS
An ingenious textile weave born from the inventiveness of popular tradition to obtain, with simple looms, a fabric with striking, impressive designs.
THREE DIFFERENTS WORKSHOPS
FOR THE CURIOUS (4 hours)
One morning: to hear about the history of the fabric, discover the materials, and experience the thrill of hand weaving.
FOR THE CURIOUS (8 hours)
An entire day: to hear about to the history of fabric, discover the materials, and experience the thrill of hand weaving, by making a small bookmark to take home as a souvenir of the experience.
FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO LEARN MORE (20 hours)
One week: a complete course where the students will create a complete project using a traditional fabric of their choice, selecting the materials and taking care of every detail of the execution. This course also provides an introduction to hand weaving and fabric design.
At the end of the workshop, students will take home the sample or samples they have made.
In all three courses, students will visit places and museums where they can discover the original fabrics they have woven in the workshop.
