Lacrime di Sirena

Tapestry / warp in cotton, weft in local wool and reused fishing nets
2022

Lacrime di Sirena (“Tears of the mermaid”) originates from a collaboration with the Design for Sustainability Laboratory of the University of Florence, in partnership with the research project P.Ri.S.Ma-MED.

The artwork aims to offer a different vision of the Mediterranean Sea, weaving the sea with discarded fishing nets and the land with local Tuscan wool, representing the significant role of craftsmanship in the circular economy.

Creating this artwork was challenging, both from a design and practical perspective. The sublimation process that transformed the fishing nets into wefts gave birth to a speaking artwork.
